How App Updates Work

There are two type of app updates that we use: App Store Updates and Over the Air Updates.

App Store Updates

You are probably familiar with this kind of update. On Android you will go to the Play Store. On iOS, the App Store. You then download a new version of the app.

We push a new update to the App Stores about every other week.

Over the Air Updates

Since we are using the newest technology to build our apps, we are able make some changes to your app without forcing you to download an entire new version from the App Store.

When Scooter Map is open, code runs in the background checking to see if there is a new version of the app. We then download the new code for the next time you open the app.

Once we have downloaded new code, the next time you open Scooter Map, you will see an updated version of the app.

Every so often we will make changes that aren’t supported by over the air updates. In those cases, we will upload a new version to the App Store and you will be able to download the update from there.

How to Troubleshoot an Error or Missing Feature

  1. Go to the App Store or Play Store and make sure you have the most updated version of Scooter Map
  2. Open Scooter Map and leave it open to allow the new over the air version to download in the background. Then the next time you open Scooter Map, the app should be updated.

You can check what version of the app you are running in the Profile tab. Scroll to the bottom to see the version (App Store Version) and the publish date (the last over the air update you downloaded).

View what version of the app you are running in the Profile tab.

If you have any trouble with the app, you can hit the “Click here to email us” button in the Profile tab. That will automatically include your User ID and the version of your app in the email so we can help you debug.
